The first step involves the potential owner gaining information about the RHI and the possible renewable heating options and then making the decision to install a renewable heating system

The second step involves the potential owner contacting a certified installer who will access the energy needs of the property and provide a quote and information on RHI support

The third step is installation and commissioning of the chosen technology for the property. The owner will then be presented with a certificate completed by the installer

The fourth step involves presenting this proof of installation to Ofgem so that the applicant can be registered in the scheme.  Please refer to OFGEM's RHI application guidelines which can be found online at The Renewable Heat Incentive Application Process – An Overview and Key Guidance: Applicant Guidance Note 3

The fifth step involves the completion of the registration and accreditation process. Once this is done, Ofgem will begin paying the incentive on an annual basis.
