The majority of biomass used in heating is in actual fact wood, either in the form of logs, chips or pellets. Some biomass products are made out of grass, seed husks or even leaves, but these are not very common in the market.
Providing responsible, sustainable management of woodlands is in place to ensure that woodland is replanted; then there is little environmental impact associated with burning biomass. In fact when comparing Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions from different renewable technologies, biomass has much lower net emissions than even ground source or air source heat pumps.
