Disadvantages of Air Source Heat Pumps

  • Have lower efficiencies than Ground Source Heat Pumps
  • Heating efficiency is much lower at lower temperatures so don’t actually work at their best at exactly the time you need them to - in winter
  • Have relatively high installation costs but cheaper than most Ground Source Heat Pumps
  • For water heating purposes, an auxiliary heat source is required
  • Require installation of a large box on the side of the property
  • Require electricity to operate the pump
  • Can be quite noisy.
